Flying Geese Coasters

When I was designing the Quilt Blocks collection, I really wanted to make fabrics that you could use for all kinds of projects, not just quilting. I think the best thing about the fabrics is that they really don’t need to be cut up and sewn together to make geometric patterns, but here I’ve taken the flying geese fabric design and cut it up anyway! These coasters are patchwork, made from all three colorways of this pattern, which I called “Flying Stripe”, inspired by flying geese and a ticking stripe.

These are pretty similar to the Pieced Coasters that I made here. Just cut into 1″ strips with a ruler. You can read more details and see process photos over at Stumbles and Stitches. They are featuring some great projects in their Feather Your Nest series, as well as organizing ideas and peeks into the homes of creative people.

Summersville

I’ve written about the new fabric collection from Lucie Summers before, but I was excited to finally get some in my hands. Thanks, Lu! You may be familiar with Lucie’s Etsy shop, Summersville, where she sells her lovely silkscreened fabric printed with simple and charming designs. Now some of these designs are available on printed quilting cotton from Moda and now you can buy yards and yards of them. I love the colors and how these fabrics really retain the hand-printed look.

Where can you buy it? Lucie has the stockists linked in the sidebar of her blog here. Looking for a project idea? She colored the fabric with fabric markers here. I can just imagine one of my girls wearing a skirt that she has colored herself. Or you could make boy’s pants or an art tote and have the kids color the fabric. Also, Lynne has a great tutorial for a framed art pillow using the Summersville collection. The alphabet print could be stretched on a canvas and hung in a kid’s room. And here’s Lucie’s tutorial for her Under Over quilt block. Or a pouch with the Scandi print (in red below). Many possibilities.

Fabric is here!

It’s here! My Quilt Blocks collection for Moda came in the mail today. You can tell from the light that I took the photos late in the day, but you get the idea. In addition to the designs pictured above are these prints that I got back in the fall. Should be hitting your local quilt shop in the next few weeks. Ask them about it! I’ll be making stuff here throughout the month, so sorry if I bombard you with it, but I am really excited!

The Flower Garden print in shade is one of my favorites.

The Hexagon Dots print has little hex flowers on the selvedge.

The Stars pattern is available in five colors and would make a great backing for a quilt.

Here’s the Magnolia Road print.

I’ve stacked these up and added solids to possibly use in a baby quilt. I’m off to make something!
