The Week in Pictures

instagram-9-30-13

I’ve been busy sewing for Quilt Market, which takes place at the end of October, so I don’t have too much to show you now. But here are a few photos that I posted on Instagram in the last week. Above you can see a big stack of my Garden collection and a peek at what I’m sewing for my booth.

I also worked with my third grader’s Brownie troop on their scarecrow to display at the Atlanta Botanical Garden, which was such a fun project. The girls used Mod Podge to paste photos of themselves to a plastic pumpkin head, then I added (many) layers of polyurethane to make it waterproof. The girls made fake badges, which we laminated and sewed onto a vest. The girls wrapped dowel rods in yarn to create colorful arms, then we added flowers growing out of the concrete base and “planted” the scarecrow in a terracotta pot. I hope it will survive a month outdoors!

Quilt Market

Garden-Fabric

Just got fabric from my upcoming Garden collection for Kokka! I’ll be sewing some things for my booth at Fall Quilt Market next month, then the fabric should be shipping to stores soon after.

Pictured above are two of the prints — Dutch Garden and Butterflies. There are six designs in the collection, each in three colorways, for a total of 18 fabrics.

Garden Collection

I just got strike-offs from my next collection and thought I’d share a sneak peek. It’s called Garden and features six prints in three colorways each. That cheater print on the bottom left consists of 10″ squares of small scale designs, so will be perfect basics for quilted and patchwork projects. The full collection will be available at Quilt Market this fall and should be shipping shortly thereafter.

If you’re unfamiliar with the fabric design process, strike-offs are test samples sent from the factory to check for color and printing errors. I usually don’t have to make many changes to mine, but I did send a couple back this time with slight color revisions. Then, once the changes are made, they will begin to produce yardage at the factory.

In the U.S. and worldwide, Kokka fabric is available from Seven Islands Fabric and in Europe, Kokka is also available from Nunoya.

Folk Modern Table Runner Sew-Along

Look! I’m doing a Sew-Along over on Kollabora, a new community site for crafting and sewing.

Each Monday for the next three weeks, I’ll give instructions for making my Folk Modern table runner. At the end of the sew-along, you can upload your photos to Kollabora. I’ll choose three winners to receive a copy of 1, 2, 3 Sew! I really look forward to seeing what kinds of fabric and color combinations people use for this project, so I hope you’ll join in! You could also take the basic block and make a full quilt.

This week I gave a supply list and cutting instructions, then we’ll make the block next week. So be sure to check back each Monday for more instructions. I hope you’ll join in on the sew-along!

Folk Modern Projects

Just thought I’d share a couple of projects made by Kokka using my Folk Modern fabric collection. Above is the Citrus Trees print in blue and below is a sweet photo they took with the Medallions print in yellow and in green, and below that, another bag with the Rings print in gray. I’m not sure what patterns they used to make these bags, but I’ll check and get back to you! They’ve also shared a tutorial for this sweet Boston bag in my Tulips print.

Looks like the collection is popping up in stores — here, here and here.
