I tried this last year to add some embellishment to a lamp shade, so I thought I’d quickly show you how I did it.
An easy project if you are brave enough to put a lamp shade in your sewing machine. You’ll need an inexpensive paper or plastic lined shade. I’d advise using a heavy-duty needle, long stitches on slow speed, with loose tension. Simply wind the thread that you want to show onto your bobbin and place the shade in your machine with the wrong side facing up, as shown below. Stitch around — and that’s all!
So pretty. And expensive looking. Nice!

Looks great – it’s subtle and clean but definitely adds some pizazz to a plain shade.
How cool! I just bought a brand new – linen – lampshade from goodwill! Now, to pick out one or two colored thread to match it to my quilt.

Pretty! This turned out so well. I love the idea of sprucing up a room by embellishing/repurposing (pro-recycling and wallet friendly!).
;-D I made mine today! I found a new shade at the thrift store and picked up thread that matched my bedroom quilt exactly! I, now, have two different stitches around the bottom of my shade. I’m so pleased!

This may be a stupid question but I’m gong to ask anyways.. How do you get a round lamp shade in the machine? I can understand one stitch around, are you taking it apart? (I’m a visual person)
Not stupid at all. The lamp shade was large enough that I was able to fit it into the machine, sewing on the INSIDE of the shade (make sure your bobbin thread is the color you want on the outside). Hope that answer helps.
