Dutch Girls

I’ve been making some back-to-school clothes for the girls this week.  So I made my six-year-old a side-zip denim skirt and I made the four-year-old a pair of “mom jeans” (flat panel on the front and elastic in the back — can I get a pair?). I edged them both with some vintage and new embroidered ribbons.  Can’t get enough of these.  Perhaps it’s because they remind me of this dirndl from my childhood.

The bird ribbon is from Superbuzzy and you can order it here.  The others are odds and ends from my stash.

  1. I have some of the ribbon with the hearts sitting in the mess on my sewing desk right now.
I was planning on edging a sweater with it.
    I love decorative ribbons!

  2. This is how I like to use all my Euro-feel ribbons, too! I feel like it highlights them, and gives me a chance to see them more. Finally had to make the decision a couple years ago to not hide them all forever, but bring them out to play, and I’ve been so glad. Love the skirts, gorgeous ribbon!

  3. Can you share how you attached the ribbon? I couldn’t tell if you just stitched them directly on the fabric. Thanks!
