Meet Peabo.

This is what’s going on at our house this week. Meet Peabo the dog. All nine pounds of him. He’s a full-grown one-year-old terrier mix that we got from a rescue agency and I think it’s quite possible that he’s the sweetest dog in the world. I’ve never had small dogs and I was skeptical, but this little guy rarely barks and is as gentle as can be with the girls.

The girls wanted a small dog and I think they sold me on it when they started obsessing over Boo, the World’s Cutest Dog. My husband was reluctant, so he got to choose the name, cheekily choosing “Peabo” after the romantic balladeer Peabo Bryson. And now I’m thinking about my Magic Moments record compilation that I ordered from a TV commercial as a kid. It’s all coming full circle.

I may or may not have put this dog in a tote and taken him into Whole Foods the other day. I’m not telling. And as you can see, he’s about the same size as our cat and they are actually getting along well though he may like to “play” more than she does. Maybe you’ll see some doggie sewing projects here soon!

Mouse Pincushion Video Tutorial

We just returned from a long vacation, stopping off in New York to visit Etsy for Craft Night, where I showed lots of patient people how to make the little mouse pincushion from my book 1, 2, 3 Sew. Everyone was so nice and friendly, and made me feel at ease, despite equipping me with a microphone and putting me behind a camera.

If you’d like to make a pincushion, you can download the instructions and templates here. This version was modified to use felt for the ears, which went faster in the workshop. But if you use fabric, just be sure to add 1/4″ seam allowance to the template.

Later in the evening, my husband and kids came by and you can see how we enjoyed Etsy’s cool photo booth, and you can also scroll through some other photos from the event here.

And a special thanks to Purl Soho for providing a discount on the beautiful felt used for this project. It’s so much fun to visit their store!
