Little House Pouch

Here’s a tutorial for this little house pouch.  Quick and easy to make.  It’s lined and you can add a velcro or magnetic closure.  Tuck some colored pencils and paper inside for a child’s art pouch, or put it in your bag to carry odds and ends.  You could even add a strap and make it into a sweet child’s purse.  This one’s been taken over by my six-year-old who is calling it a wallet.  Kind of big for that, but okay.  Oh, and the printed fabrics came from here and here.

  1. I love this! I’m going to show it to my 8 year old who takes sewing lessons to see if she’d like to make her own version.

  2. oh, that is so darling! Thanks for sharing. I can already see the possibilities – gingerbread house, mushroom house, “princess” house, circus! Love it!

  3. This is so cute I made one yesterday- the same day I saw the tute! It was well timed as I had started to think about how to do something like this, and you saved me the effort. I am not sure if there is an error in the instructions- the main body of the house needs to be outside out when sewing the outside bag, lining and roof altogether? I am not sure if there is another way of doing it, but that’s how I did it. Thanks again for sharing.

  4. ps and I put the outside bag into the lining. So the right sides of the lining and outer bag were facing as it says in your instructions. I don’t want to confused anyone reading the comments more than I have myself!

  5. Bek, thanks for pointing that out! You’re right. I have corrected it now. It doesn’t matter which one of your pieces is right sides out and which is wrong sides out, but you must have right sides facing one another, which I did say next in the instructions. But sorry for the confusion!

  6. This is so cute! I have just made it for my niece’s birthday. Quite quick to make! Thanks for the tutorial!

  7. I needed one more gift idea for my 18mo old. She’s always stealing my purse and so once I add a strap this will be the PERFECT gift 🙂 Thank you for sharing such a sweet idea!

  8. thankyou for sharing this lovely pouch tutorial.. brilliant mind i must say and it has turned out so cute 🙂

  9. Is it possible to add a zipper closure? Thanks so much for your creative ideas!

  10. Thank you very much for sharing this! Mine turned out great. I did have trouble printing as I was printing onto A4 paper so would you mind sharing the dimensions of the main rectangle for future reference? Thank you again for taking the time to share this!

  11. I have an almost 9 yr old who wants to learn to sew. I have a sewing machine but I feel she is not quite up to that yet. Could we do this and she could hand sew it? She does know how to sew by hand.

Thanks – I just love the looks of this!

  12. Oh, yes. I think she could do this by hand, but she could also use the machine with you by her side and sew the straight lines of the pouch. My seven-year-old is learning to sew and I was worried she couldn’t handle the machine, but she does a great job!

  13. I am confused by something. What is the finished size? The supplies say 16×13 fabric, but when you measure the house body it is only 8×6.25? are the patterns supposed to be enlarged at all, or do we just end up with a lot of extra fabric?
