Some New Skirts

kokka-skirts

Made a couple of simple elastic-waist skirts from this Kokka fabric that I was pretty excited to see in my local quilt shop.  The fabric pictures a sweet little playground and schoolhouse with the French words “vie scolaire heureuse”, which, according to an online translator means “happy scholastic life”.  Yes, this is still true for my kids.

  1. Actually “vie scolaire heureuse” just means “happy school life”; “scholastic” would be a bit harsh on the kids…
    The pattern is really lovely!

  2. Anna — thanks for the correct translation. Those online translators usually come up with some wacky stuff.

  3. Lucky you, to have a shop with great fabric like that! That particular print was featured in a recent issue of Cotton Time, for making kindergarten smocks. It appears to make lovely skirts as well!

  4. Hmmm! No kiddies running about. What could I make with such a lovely fabric? Maybe I’ll just admire your work. It’s beautiful as usual.

  5. These are adorable !! Did you use a pattern ? And if so, would you mind sharing which pattern, or perhaps basic instructions ? We have 2 girls (ages 9 and 13), and these simple skirts look like they would be perfect sewing projects for them (they are beginners). I am a novice as well, so my ability to help them along is very limited. Our girls have moved past crafty-type practice projects and want to begin making some of their own clothing. Would you have any other simple recommendations for aspiring young seamstresses ?
