Scarecrow

ghoul-scout

Creepy, isn’t it? October always is always a busy month for us. With Quilt Market, a trip to Portland, and Halloween costumes and events, we’re having an extra busy year.

My daughter’s fourth grade girl scout troop made this scarecrow “Ghoul Scout” for the Atlanta Botanical Garden. She actually turned out a bit creepier than we intended, but the girls were enthusiastic and this was the right age for getting a bit scary. The photo above was taken right after we dropped her off and she still has a tag pinned on her front. We haven’t been to the garden to see her in place yet, but she’ll be on display throughout October. And it looks like she’s won second place in the non-professional category, which should be exciting for our kids who worked so hard!

ghoul-scout-badges

The girls made badges for the Ghoul Scout that you can see below, and I was impressed with their grotesque creativity! The badges include “puppy scaring”, “human head basketball”, “blood tea party”, and one of my favorites — “killing rainbows.” Pretty great. We even added a box of “Skin Mints.” This was my 11-year-old’s idea and she came up with the list of disgusting ingredients like flaking soda and hydrogenated toes. Gross, huh?

Charms

Introducing Charms, my new fabric collection for Kokka! Another collection with three prints in double gauze cotton and three prints in cotton/linen blend. And a metallic gold colorway!

This collection will debut at Fall Quilt Market in late October and should be shipping to stores shortly thereafter. Contact Seven Islands Fabric for wholesale ordering information in the US. If you’ll be at Market, come visit me in booth #656/756.

1,2,3 Quilt of the Day

Cathedral-Windows-Quilt

Here’s the Cathedral Windows Quilt from 1, 2, 3 Quilt. If you haven’t tried this technique, it’s much easier that it looks. Basically a bit of fabric folding will make your blocks. I machine stitched mine for speed, but you can slow down and sew your cathedral windows by hand.

And here are all the other quilts from the book:

Quilt Market Sewing

It’s that time again! I’ve just started sewing samples for Quilt Market. Here are some peeks at my next collection for Kokka. If you own a fabric shop, feel free to email me for more photos or contact Seven Islands Fabric (in the US) or Nunoya (in Europe) to pre-order.

I’ve had some distractions lately:

lionel-the-kitten

Don’t worry. No kitty was harmed in the making of this photo! My older daughter wanted to adopt a black cat when she found out that they have a difficult time finding homes due to superstitions. This little guy is named Lionel to go with our dog, Peabo. It’s been over a year since our 17-year-old cat Kiki died and I miss her so much. And you know, I wanted to invite more chaos into my life!

#instaquilt at Intown Quilters

instaquilt-in-progress

Here’s a collection of some of the blocks from our #instaquilt project that we did in the Makers Tent at the Decatur Book Festival. I think it’s really interesting how these blocks are coming together with no plan at all!

This is a work in progress and you can still add your block! Just make a half-square triangle and share on Instagram with the hashtag #instaquilt. If you want to contribute a physical block, just bring it in or mail to Intown Quilters by the end of the month. We’ll make a quilt that will be displayed and then donated to charity.

This weekend, you can even come out to Intown Quilters and sew some blocks with me and Sarah Phillips of Intown Quilters. We’ll have a few machines and some fabric, but feel free to bring your own machine and supplies if you’d like. Join us at 4:00 pm on Sunday at Intown Quilters in Decatur. It’s a free event and we hope to see you there!
