Mouse Pincushion Video Tutorial

We just returned from a long vacation, stopping off in New York to visit Etsy for Craft Night, where I showed lots of patient people how to make the little mouse pincushion from my book 1, 2, 3 Sew. Everyone was so nice and friendly, and made me feel at ease, despite equipping me with a microphone and putting me behind a camera.

If you’d like to make a pincushion, you can download the instructions and templates here. This version was modified to use felt for the ears, which went faster in the workshop. But if you use fabric, just be sure to add 1/4″ seam allowance to the template.

Later in the evening, my husband and kids came by and you can see how we enjoyed Etsy’s cool photo booth, and you can also scroll through some other photos from the event here.

And a special thanks to Purl Soho for providing a discount on the beautiful felt used for this project. It’s so much fun to visit their store!

1, 2, 3 Sew Review on CraftyPod

Check out the review of 1, 2, 3 Sew over on CraftyPod. Diane Gilleland of CraftyPod is author of Kanzashi in Bloom, editor of CRAFT, and has published a number of e-books about crafts, blogging, and crafty business. She’s pretty much the queen of the online craft community, I would say. In fact, listening to this podcast that she did on publishing a craft book is how I figured out how to publish my book! So I’m so excited that she’s written a book review. Head on over there and take a look. Thanks, Diane!

Quilt Blocks Fabric Collection

Exciting news! If you listened to my podcast over on Papernstitch this past week, then you may have heard about my new venture into fabric design. I’m thrilled that Moda will be producing my Quilt Blocks fabric collection. I just got the strike-offs and I’m so excited to see my designs on fabric. The collection of quilting-weight cotton will be introduced at Fall Quilt Market and should hit stores some time in early 2012.

The designs are obviously inspired by the patterns of quilts that I love so much, but with a bright, modern feel. And I think many of them will work really well to make quilts! I’ll show you more of the designs soon. I cannot wait to see what you all make with this fabric.
