Vintage Etsy

I am sort of having a problem with self-control when it comes to the vintage finds on Etsy. Doesn’t it seem like a good way to recycle? Many of the Etsy shops feature only high-quality vintage finds so you don’t have to sift through all the junk that you find on ebay or at a flea market. Here are some of the things I’ve been looking at:

Katrina Kaye cushion cover made with vintage fabrics, $25.

majolica-bird.jpg

Majolica Bird Box from blue bell bazaar, $28. This is totally something that my grandmother would have owned.

pyrex.jpg

Pyrex bowl from a touch of vintage. Set of 2, $24. My mother still uses her gold set of Pyrex mixing bowls.

And these Holly Hobbie colorforms from the happydashery. Remember these? For some reason I have been feeling the need to force my nostalgia onto my children. Check out Holly’s updated style:

Aaaarrh! What have they done to you, Holly? Where has the high Victorian neckline gone? The patchwork? And what about the bonnet for goodness’ sake??? Did they even change her hair color? I guess we should be thankful that she’s not showing her midriff and wearing thongs.

  1. Oh no!! Poor Holly! I totally had those original colorforms!!! I don’t think new and hip Holly rings true at all. But I guess they have even stopped the Little House re-runs too. sigh….

  2. Ug! The updated Holly Hobby is making me very sad! I had the Holly Hobby Colorforms, lunch box, sheet set, and my mother even made me two embroidered wall hangings. Yes, I was a fan. The updated version is better than those Bratz, at least.

  3. I second that about Holly Hobby. My mom made me a theme room when I was a kid, meaning wallpaper and lampshade, she’s still got the lampshade for goodness sake. It says “start each day in a happy way”.

ah… too bad. Nice pyrex though, very tempting.

  4. I had everything Holly Hobby when I was 7-8 yrs old. I had the whole theme going — even the record player!

  5. Ugh. Poooooor HH. I had these, too!! Seeing them made me laugh out loud. My mom made my two sisters and me Holly Hobby dolls one Christmas, with all the accessories…. including the BONNET!! I was a GREAT fan!

  6. I think I had those Holly Hobby colorforms. I’d forgotten all about them but seeing them brought it all back.

I am loving your blog! Found you via Craft and have been going back and checking out all your Etsy picks. I’ve added a million more faves since checking out your finds.

  7. Love the old Holly Hobby, hate the new one! yucky! If anyone is a die hard fan…there is a booth at an antique shop in our little town that has gobs of Holly Hobby stuff for sale. If your interested…email me at mandykayweaver@yahoo.com and I will send you pictures and prices.
