Table Makeover

Raise your hand if you own one of these IKEA lamp shades. I have seen them everywhere, but still love them. My mother bought these two tables at an estate sale and I painted them for the girls’ room. They are right next to each other because their beds are pushed up against the walls for now. You can see the before and after of the tables below.

I’m not sure that I’m happy with the colors as I was mixing acrylics with house paint that I had on hand, but oh well. It adds some brightness to their very pale pink room.

Then I finally finished these little runners for the tables that I’ve been thinking about for a while. I just cut fabric with no measuring at all, then snipped as I pieced it together in a random pattern.

  1. Beautiful tables! I love the colors, and the lampshades, which I don’t have. But now I may have to go to IKEA and look for them, they are very cute! And the runners are the perfect finishing touch, I think! Nice job.

  2. Hello, and love the tables and table runners! I also make table runners from various scraps and pieces of neat fabric. I recently made a Valentines’ one for a front hall table. I am wondering, do you quilt the runners? and/or do you bind the edges or just put a back on them and sew the two sides right sides together and turn it out?

  3. I am lazy — I just sew the patchwork side with a piece of plain backing fabric, flip it inside out and sew a decorative stitch on both ends. I do not quilt them. I have a short attention span!

  4. Your blog is so clever! I love all the little projects you do. With small children I am impressed and not only your talent but your stamina!!!
