In the kitchen

I’ve been on a cookie-baking binge the last couple of days. I made several batches of snickerdoodles, my favorite cookie ever, from this excellent recipe. I replaced the regular salt with a honey infused salt that added an extra salty flavor. I want to make a batch of over-sized snickerdoodles soon.

I’m also planning to make this pear bread next. Then of course the kids want to make the decorated sugar cookies that end up being such a sugary mess! We’ll make those this weekend.

What are your favorite recipes for holiday sweets?

  1. A giant sugary mess was always a tradition in my family too. A must do for me is the classic gingerbread cookie. I use the recipe from the 1956 printing of the Better Homes cookbook. The more modern version uses veg oil instead of butter, which is just wrong in my opinion. Also there has been lots of fudge this year. http://www.eaglebrand.com/recipes/details/?RecipeId=3968

    Happy baking and Merry Christmas!

  2. I’m in the midst of my annual baking bonanza as well. I always make bags of cookies for my husband’s students; favorite cookies include: chocolate crinkles, snickerdoodles, vanilla spritz, and ginger snaps. I also make a batch of peanut butter blossoms for us. =)

  3. They look yummy!
Thanks for the pear bread recipe ~ pears are my favorite fruit and this bread sounds yummy too!

  4. Ok, I have to admit I’ve never had a snickerdoodle cookie…..
    Yours make me wish otherwise!

I made peanut butter fudge last night. I love it!
