I guess I’m going to write about this school auction quilt for the next month, because it’s pretty much what I’m doing with my time right now. I’ve also decided that I’m going to write more about process this year since I’ll be quilting a lot and the finished product doesn’t come so quickly.
I changed the color order, made it into a square (below) and wanted to also show you the actual fabrics and embroidery floss colors (above). The fabrics are Kona cotton solids (donated by Whipstitch). I got started on it today with the kindergarten class and it was fun to watch the kids. Several kids had never seen a needle and thread before, so it was amazing to see some enjoy themselves and get excited about it. Others weren’t as interested, but I think it’s always good to introduce kids to new things. You never know who will be the next Valentino.
There’s my daughter working on it below. This project is going to be sooooo slow, but I think that’s a good thing.
It is going to be an AMAZING quilt! The handiwork of kids will be precious. Looks fabulous already!

I really like this idea – and I think it could be a fun at-home project for kids or adults. I’m thinking a table runner or placemats, to have a usable appliation for handiwork, and let the kids show off what they can do.

I am always trying to think of ideas that my children’s school could do, and the importance of them participating is just amazing! If I keep getting this excited watching and learning from you who knows I might be able to do this.

I am thinking of ‘stealing’ your idea (a bit) for our class auction quilt. I’ll have to modify it quite a bit (mostly make it quite a bit smaller), because it would just be for my son’s 3rd grade class. They are doing a lot of embroidery in handwork (Waldorf) this year so it would tie in perfectly to the work they’ve done so far. I’m thinking of having some of the parents work on the more complicated patterns.
WOW! I love this–the embroidery designs on the simple colors—and having kids help..this is going to be so lovely once completed.
