Piecing

I’ve been string piecing this long strip of scraps to make a throw quilt. Quilting is always a problem for me because there are about 400 choices to make in the process, so I often become overwhelmed with indecision. But I’ve just decided that I’m going to sew now and decide if I like it later. We’ll see where it goes next.

  2. Wow! I’m pretty sure you’re going to love this! I’m the same way … so many way to go with a quilt that when I’m ready to start a new one I’m stuck. You’ve inspired me though and I’m just going to sit down and start sewing.

  5. I really often sew like this. It’s a great pleasure to put strips in different or in simular colours together and after that to decide what to do with.
    I often make purses and bags of this piece of fabric, and the size will be decided by the size of the new fabric.
    So good luck to you to find the right inspiration.

  6. this is exactly why I freak about quilting/patchwork anything! I just made my first patchwork something (a pillow cover) and I really had to learn to ‘let go’!

  8. I really need to develope this just do attitude with most things. I put so much thought into what I want to do that not much ends up getting done!

  10. hands down, that is my problem, too. each time I start something I spend more than 2x what time it takes to make it just thinking about it… wondering… INDECISION!

  11. I can’t take the pressure of a pattern and all the decision making and matching…somehow jus throwing together what you already own seems to come out so much nicer, and much more YOU. i love this, keep gong!

  16. Man, I always have the same problem with quilting. Which is probably why I’ve finished very few quilts in my life. But I absolutely love what you’re working on here. Love the colors. Love that it’s so long. Love it on the stairs. Love love love.

  19. That’s a great photo! I had a 5 yard strip of fabric sewn that I photographed this week but the best idea I had was to lay it on the floors. the stairs! Now there’s a V-8 moment. Good luck on your spontaneous decisions and what will surely be a fine quilt.

    I recommend that you document it all because you know how we all love step by step instructions!!

  27. I like it. And I’m impressed that it’s coming along more or less straight. When I strip piece, I always seem to get off-kilter for some reason.

  28. I love this idea. I have been wanting to make a lap quilt for my mum for some time and I just may use this laissez-faire approach of just stitching together the scraps and seeing what happens. Also, have I told you how much I love your blog? I do. And I am very eager for your book to come out.

  29. I am doing one of these using the 6″ scraps from Shaggy Raggy quilts. My friends in my “Bee” group are wishing they had saved the scraps. Another man’s trash is another man’s treasure!

  31. THAT LOOKS LIKE A DOOABLE PROJECT TO ME! I GET SO CONFUSED TRYING TO LOOK AT QUILTS AND FIGURE OUT COLORS, SIZES, ETC. THIS WAY YOU CAN CUT THE PIECES OUT ANY SIZE AND PUT THEM WHERE YOU WANT THEM. THANKS FOR SHARING, SANDY IN NH
