I love finding inspiration online but it’s still nice to look through print magazines, which are scarce these days, particularly in the craft world. MixTape is a self-published zine produced in Australia and edited by Justine Telfer, who shows her passion for handmade in both the design and content. Self-described as “A Collision of Art/Craft, Eco-Awareness & Pop Culture Kitsch”, MixTape includes artist profiles, tutorials, indie business tips, gardening ideas, recipes and music reviews in a beautifully designed square format. For me, this publication is a reflection of what’s happening in the online craft world, but goes beyond that with a more comprehensive look at the makers and their stories.
In the second kids’ issue pictured below, there are some great projects for kids like a tooth fairy pillow, boy quilt, loads of craft ideas and some helpful articles about creating with the wee ones. And in issue #13 (pictured above), there are many ways to get inspired with photos, profiles and tutorials. I love the fabric-covered map puzzle on the front, designed by Jessica Wilson of scrumdillydilly.
You can listen to an interview with Justine in a podcast from last year over at Craft Sanity. And you can buy both issues here. If you like handmade, you’ll love MixTape.
