Thank you for this. I feel compelled to tell you that for every $1 raised by the American Red Cross, only 7 cents will actually get to Haiti. My husband and I have spent time in Haiti and stay as connected to Haiti as possible (we have family & friends there and our son was adopted from Haiti). When we hear of people sending money to the Red Cross, we try to tell them of some better options … where 100% of your money will get to Haiti. The best of which is yele.org. Please consider giving them a shout-out. Thank you!!!

I’ve also heard of an organization called Hope For Haiti, from which 98% of your donation goes directly to the people in need in Haiti. Also, they are already on the ground in Haiti, which is important right now, as the airports are clogged and infrastructure is damaged there right now, making it hard to get new people and new supplies in to the areas in greatest need.
There is a great organization called CraftHope (www.crafthope.com) that does things like arranging for quilters to make quilts for homeless children, etc. Right now they have started CraftHope for Haiti. You can shop on their etsy site at http://www.crafthope.etsy.com or go to the main site to find out to donate handmade items. Currently things seem to be selling almost as quickly as they are posted. All proceeds go to Doctors Without Borders.
