Pippi Longstocking

Sometimes I select books just for the cover art. I just bought a couple of new chapter books for the girls for that very reason. I love the artwork by Charlie & Lola artist Lauren Child for this updated version of the classic Pippi Longstocking by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren.

And My Father’s Dragon, by Ruth Stiles Gannett and illustrated by Ruth Chrisman Gannett, has such beautiful cover artwork (although sadly the inside illustrations are in black and white). Looks like a good story, so we’ll see if looks or substance wins.

  1. I know excactly what you mean…I do the same thing too! And my children are 11 and 16½ years old by now!!! So I use the books as an inspiration…

I just love childrens’ books and especially the ones by Astrid Lindgren. I read a lot of her books to my children when they were younger.

  2. My favorite book in the world is “The Bed Book” by Sylvia Plath. I loved it before I knew who she was. I don’t think many people are aware she wrote a childrens book and it is adorable. A rhyming poem and illustrations of silly imaginative beds that are submarines and swimming pools and automats and shrinkable. My kids lost my original copy but I found one on Amazon – never to be loaned out again!
