Handmade? Holidays

The problem with Etsy these days is that I’m not sure what’s handmade and what’s not. Maybe the item you’re looking at was independently designed and produced overseas? Maybe it’s shipping directly from China? Maybe it was made by your next door neighbor?

Who knows, but here are some RBG suggestions for the holidays.

Dissent Collar Baby Bib from Dirtsa Studio.

RBG Wrapping Paper from Earthereal Design.

Dissent Collar Necklace from Dissent Pins.

Women of Supreme Court Cross Stitch Pattern from Stitchuation Designs.

I Dissent Pin from Bored, Inc.

Giclee Print from Triton One.

Small but Mighty Coffee Mug from Foxy Mug.

T-shirt from Left Wing Swag.

Ornament from Grey Owl Design.

VOTE.

Quilt Block made by a student of the Social Justice Sewing Academy.

Do you need a reminder to vote? Probably not.

It’s hard to believe that women gained the right to vote less than one hundred years ago, with the continued disenfranchisement of black women. There’s a long history of political activism in fiber art in the United States, during the American Revolution, the abolition of slavery, the women’s suffrage movement, 1960s feminism, and now a resurgence in the form of craftivism.

The right to vote is still challenged today, which only reminds us of its power.
