I love this Eric Carle inspired project idea from Arounna Khounnoraj of Bookhou over at Bloesem Kids. Instructions here.
Kiki + Polly
I truly love these customized portraits by Kiki + Polly. Portland artist Lisa Golightly can incorporate your child’s image into one of her original works of art. In addition to her site featuring custom work, she has an Etsy shop here and a nice blog here.
Children’s Drawings into Photography
Korean artist Yeondoo Jung creates these wonderful photographs based on children’s drawings. I love the surreal feeling of a child’s imagination brought to reality. This might be a nice project to try at home (on a lesser scale). Link via Craft and Swiss Miss. Princess Twins, c-print, 2004.
Mosaic Painting
My husband made this painting of our first-born years ago, when she was around 6 months old. We must have had more free time back then. He should open an Etsy shop, don’t you think?
I searched through our old pictures and found the photo that he used:
He took the photo, created the mosaic effect in Photoshop and then laid it out on a grid. Sort of a paint-by-numbers thing. I wouldn’t have the patience for this, but thought I’d share since it turned out so well. I’ve always loved it. Our younger daughter got one that was done in Photoshop and sent off to the photo processor to be printed on canvas. I guess if we had another, she wouldn’t get one at all. Or any baby toys since I’ve given them all away.
KLT Works
Artist Kristin Loffer Theiss of KLT Works created this adorable plush bird and this owl “drawing in thread”. Isn’t that thread drawing amazing? I find it really inspiring and hope to try some pillows with free sewing sometime soon.
