This simple technique allows you to create your own designs on fabric. Ostensibly used to wrap food for freezing, freezer paper can be purchased at the grocery store. Simply cut your design into the freezer paper, iron it onto the fabric, and paint.

Suggested Materials:

-Freezer paper

-X-acto knife

-Self-healing cutting mat

-Masking tape

-Stencil brush

-Fabric paint

-Cotton or linen fabric

-Tape the freezer paper (shiny side down) to the self-healing cutting mat so that it doesn’t slip

when you are cutting. Sketch first or cut freehand. Cut the design into the paper, remembering

that the cut spaces will be your inked design.

-Press the fabric before you apply the freezer paper. Remove the cut freezer paper from your

working surface and iron it onto your fabric, with the shiny side down, facing the fabric.

-Using the stencil brush, apply the ink to your design, making sure that you are stenciling with

the brush up and down, perpendicular to the fabric.

-Allow the paint to dry for at least 30 minutes, then carefully remove the freezer paper stencil.

Follow paint instructions for heat setting onto the fabric, if necessary.
