Macro Lens

I just got a 100mm macro lens for my Canon and played around with it this afternoon. This is going to be a pretty fun lens and will definitely build up my wrist muscles! It’s quite large and heavy to me, but I have no frame of reference. I’m determined to learn more about photography this summer and maybe finally figure out what an f-stop means.

We’ve been stuck in the house all week since my seven-year-old had her tonsils removed last Friday. Between this, vacations and wrapping up loose ends for the book (or rather sewing loose ends), I haven’t been posting much and probably won’t get back in the swing of things until school starts. I always think summer is going to be a relaxing time when I can get things done, but then it slips by so quickly. My — only a month left!

  • I am jealous! I just got a 50 macro for my birthday and I am dying for a 100. I can’t wait to see all of the awesome photos you take with it!

  • Awesome about the new lens. I’d love to get a great camera someday.

How was getting the tonsils out? How is your daughter? My 5 year old son was just told he might need his out and I’m a little nervous. He’s already had surgery on his arm and his appendix burst on him last year, all within two months, so he’s not looking forward to anything again!

  • I’m looking forward to enjoying more beautiful photography. I’m still using a crappy little cam and my iPhone to take photos….

    Green with envy,

  • Just sent a little f-stop tutorial to your longthread gmail account :-) Let me know if you have any more photo questions. I have a BFA in Photography :-) but don’t really use it anymore b/c now I’m an art teacher.

  • Your photograph of the pretty green thread is very nice. It’s not about the equipment, but what you do with what you have.

  • I love my Macro! ENJOY!!!

  • Ooh, what canon have you got? I’ve just got a semi-automatic compact but i’d love a full DSLR.

  • Oh I want one! The picture is so beautiful with the lonely needle there.

Your picture is so beautiful. Nothing excites me more than thread crochet, and the threads, color and lighting in your picture capture that perfectly. There’s not a lot of people who go ga-ga over a spool of crochet thread, but I’m one of them. Thank you.

  • What a perfect photo. I just got a Canon T1i and totally want to learn what f-stop means too ;) So much to learn but SO exciting too.

Ooohhh, a macro lens! Awesome! I understand what you mean…I took a photography class earlier this year at the local community college. It was so helpful to learn about f-stop, aperture, ISO, etc. and how it all works together. Now I almost always shoot in manual mode since I don’t how to set them to get the picture I want!

  • I hope that your daughter has a swift recovery.

My summer is zipping by, but I’m not at the half way point yet, so I’m still deluding myself that it is is going to be a relaxing time when I can get things done…

  • Aw, ice cream and Popsicles to your daughter.

Jealous of your macro lens! I just bought my dSLR and I’m hoping to maybe get a macro for Christmas. My wonderful hubby just signed me up for a great photography class at Proud Photography. Another friend learning photography took it and raved about it. You can find it here: http://www.proudphotography.com/ I’m not too far into it, but so far it’s been great!

Lovely photo! You will be a pro soon. There isn’t anything you can’t do.

  • I’m trying to figure out f-stops and the like too! Please share once you figure it out.

  • Love your photo, and I’m looking forward to reading what you think of your new lens as I’m considering buying one myself.
Hope you’re little one feels better ;-)

Have a great w-e and thank you for your wonderful posts ~

  • A great place to start if you want to learn to use the manual setting with your DSLR is here: http://thepioneerwoman.com/photography/category/basic-photography/what-the-heck/ -It is a bit more down to earth.
