I have a bit of an obsession with Japanese things. Like everyone, we’ve been trying to save money around here but I couldn’t resist this fabric from Superbuzzy. It’s for sundresses that I think the girls will wear all summer, so I wanted similar but not matching fabrics that I could stand to look at often. These are from one of my all-time favorite fabric collections, Lecien’s My Folklore. More and more shops are carrying Japanese fabrics, including the popular Kokka and Echino by Etsuko Furuya.
Here are some shops that specialize in Japanese fabric and craft supplies:
Fabricworm: lots of Japanese fabric, plus other designer fabrics.
From Japan with Love: Etsy shop with a huge selection of stickers, stamps, fabric and notions. They also have a yahoo shop here with even more stuff.
good-ness: Etsy shop featuring books, fabric, stamps, gocco supplies, etc.
Karaku: Etsy shop with fabric, stamps and paper goods.
Kitty-Craft: books, fabric, supplies.
Matatabi: Etsy shop with fabric and twill tape.
nuno plus: fabric, bags, craft supplies.
Pomadour’s Craft Cafe: fabric, books, other Japanese stuff.
Superbuzzy: fabric, notions, supplies, etc.
Plus Reprodepot Fabrics, J. Caroline Creative, Purl and Bee Square Fabrics have a large selection of Japanese fabric, among others.
Thanks for the list! Just received 2 1/2 yards from – From Japan with Love.
I have seen many great Japanese fabrics but I haven’t taken the plunge yet. I might just have to.
Ohhh, they remind me of sundresses I had as a kid. My mother always picked a fabric (which now would be vintage) and made me a dress for summer too 🙂 I have such fond memories of her making those. your girls will probably cherish those memories too!
I love your blog!! I will go to other Japanese fabric sites.
I love the fabrics you picked out! They will make absolutely *adorable* sundresses – I can’t wait to see them when you are done! Also, thanks for the resource links, I am bookmarking several of them right now 🙂
It’s a great list of fabric shops – I’ve shopped with many of the places listed for myself.
Thank you for mentioning Bee Square Fabrics. We actually have a promotion this month (February) for 25% off the Echino fabrics with coupon code “FebSale_Echino25” to be entered during checkout. I thought your blog readers might want to know about that.
Thanks again!

That fabric is great. In fact I’m using it in the orange colorway for my block for Common Threads next month! Can’t wait to see what you do with it!
I’ve been trying to work up the courage to buy some Japanese fabric and pattern book – I’m pretty intimidated by the directions being in Japanese. I need to do it though – I love how most of the children’s clothes look so simple yet charming.
These are so beautiful! I love Japanese fabrics, too.
Btw, you have such a lovely blog!
I love Japanese fabrics too. Ive ordered myself from Japanwithlove on Etsy.
I one day wish to carry those fabrics.
Have a great day!
