Dog-tired

My friend and photographer Laura Malek was over taking some photos for 1, 2, 3 Quilt today and our dog Peabo insisted on being in the shot. Looking at the photos tonight, I’m thinking that I’m dog-tired. Peabo’s actually not tired too often and I could use a bit of his tiny terrier energy. I’m worn out from months spent working on this book and exhausted from being a parent these days.

Anyway, I’ve got plans to make some things soon, so I hope to get back here and share them with you!

  1. I can totally relate to both of these feelings, Ellen. Even when it’s what we asked for, what we yearned for, it can be so tiring and completely overwhelming. You’ll be back full force, I know. I recommended your 1st book to a sewing student today 🙂

  2. Sweet puppy! I feel for you. Why am I more tired with 2 out of the 3 back at school full time? Peabo sure made my smile though.

  3. I love the picture of your dog and although Paebo seems dog-tired, it’s true what you say: any minute he can jump up and run around endlessly! My border terrier Willow used to be like that. He sadly passed away more than two years ago, but I still miss him and wish I had his energy. Sorry to hear you feel all worn out! Maybe some simple quilting, and this time just for yourself ( a nice tote?) could help? After I retired from a full-time job I felt more worn out than when I was planning my day from minute to minute trying to do justice to work, children, housekeeping.
Being a parent will always remain a claim on your energy (but I wouldn’t miss it for the world!). My three daughters live all on their own now, but being a parent keeps me worrying about their problems and trying to help to find solutions, caring for their well-being, their health, their safety.
I’m happy to have found quilting as a powerful “re-energizer”( don’t know if the word exists in your language} and I hope it can be the same to you, even if for you it can imply death lines and commitments. So I hope you’ll be able to recharge doing some “tote-for-yourself” quilting!

  4. I remember that feeling. I think I was having it when I got out of bed this morning. And about five minutes ago. Heh.

I have taken AN ENTIRE WEEK this week to do nothing but chill out. Well, I answered some emails and dithered a bit on the computer, but I didn’t sew or plan or worry to the degree that I have for the past….eighteen months, maybe? What is it about the second book that is SO MUCH HARDER than the first? Thought it would kill me dead, sincerely.

It also put things into sharp perspective, though, and made me appreciate the opportunities and be grateful for this busy season, but realize that I won’t have to be in a busy season *all* the time. Which was a really nice lesson to learn–that we can have ebbs and flows. I am currently ebbing, and hoping you get to soon, too. It’s pretty awesome. Will put on the kettle for you, we can eat scones and drink tea. Whatever scones are–I hope you know, will be expecting you to bring them.

Best wishes for some rest and puppy kisses SOON!

  5. I know how you feel with being tired. I hope you find some rest so you can dash around like Peabo with boundless energy. Great looking quilt too Ellen!
