Fabric is here!

It’s here! My Quilt Blocks collection for Moda came in the mail today. You can tell from the light that I took the photos late in the day, but you get the idea. In addition to the designs pictured above are these prints that I got back in the fall. Should be hitting your local quilt shop in the next few weeks. Ask them about it! I’ll be making stuff here throughout the month, so sorry if I bombard you with it, but I am really excited!

The Flower Garden print in shade is one of my favorites.

The Hexagon Dots print has little hex flowers on the selvedge.

The Stars pattern is available in five colors and would make a great backing for a quilt.

Here’s the Magnolia Road print.

I’ve stacked these up and added solids to possibly use in a baby quilt. I’m off to make something!

1, 2, 3 Sew Flickr Round-Up

It’s so exciting to see what you are making from 1, 2, 3 Sew! Here’s the latest from the Flickr photo group. If you have the book, be sure to add your photos by joining the group here.

Ticking Stripe Hot Pad from Melanie of A Sewing Journal.

Change Your Mind Skirt from Nest Full of Eggs.

Kitty Softie (made with my Quilt Blocks Flying Geese fabric) from my former intern, Erin.

Polka Dot Pouch variation from Stitchuation.

Craft Caddy from Thar She Sews.

And my fabric is coming! I made this version of the Change Your Mind reversible skirt from the book for Quilt Market in the fall, but I’m getting cuts of all the fabric from Moda in a couple of days and can’t wait to make things from it. And I look forward to seeing what YOU make! The fabric will be hitting fabric shops in April. I know that it will be available from Fat Quarter Shop and locally in Atlanta and online from Whipstitch, but check back for a full list of stockists. Have I mentioned that all shops carrying the collection will receive a free month of advertising here? Contact me for details.

Paper Bag Bird’s Nest

It’s a beautiful spring day here in Atlanta, so I thought I’d post about the paper bag bird’s nest that I made with the kids a couple of years ago for Alpha Mom. I know if I made this again with my seven-year-old, we would definitely add glitter to the glue!

Class Auction Quilt

Finished up the class auction quilt the other day. As I mentioned before, we used the glue batik technique with the kids. I didn’t get the best photo of this quilt and probably should have done more top quilting in the sashing, but wanted to be done! It looks much better lying flat than hanging as it is here. I used a natural linen and cotton blend for the framing and as you can see, the kids painted the fabric squares with shades of green and blue. It’s backed with Lizzy House’s jewels fabric in aqua, a small-scale print that worked well with the colors, while keeping the front as the main focus. Finished is the key here.

I did give the kids some images of mandalas as inspiration as the project was loosely based on an Indian theme and they practiced their drawings on paper, then transferred them to fabric. You can find a tutorial on That Artist Woman. You should note that when you have the kids paint, you’ll need to make sure you are using felt or quilt batting under the fabric so the paint doesn’t bleed through from the back.
