Needle Felted Eggs

Made some needle felted eggs last week.  I’m hoping to make a yarn nest to go with them, but we’ll see how the week goes.  These would also be nice in different colors hanging from a flowering branch.  Don’t feel like making these?  Buy some here or here.  And I love, love this tutorial for some fancy felt eggs.

Whoopie Pies

I was looking for a decadent dessert to serve to runners post-marathon (my husband’s TWELFTH marathon).  So I decided to make whoopie pies.  Then I saw this article in the New York Times.

I was excited to learn that Marshmallow Fluff is vegetarian since my children are denied marshmallows, but it has some pretty unhealthy ingredients so I couldn’t bring myself to buy the large jar.  Instead, I used a small jar and substituted with butter.  You could accomplish the same thing with egg whites, but it always makes me nervous to put egg whites in icing.  The pies were just about like a messy cake with oozy icing in the center, but they were good and the kids definitely enjoyed them.

Vote Earth Tonight

earth-hour

Vote Earth tonight from 8:30-9:30 pm by turning off your lights.  That’s 8:30 pm your local time, wherever you are.  My six-year-old is concerned that she won’t be able to use her night light, but I have assured her that I will turn it back on later!  I do think it’s important to explain to our kids how we get energy and how our energy use impacts the earth.

This poster was created by the controversial artist Shepard Fairey.  I sort of think his art is BS, but that’s just my opinion.  I do like this image.  Wonder where he “borrowed” it from?
