Although I’m interested in fashion as an abstract concept, I don’t wear fashion. I end up sewing dresses because they work so well as samples, but I finally realized that I don’t like wearing them! When not in pajama pants, I just want to wear plain, comfortable clothes. Some cotton jersey tees and denim skirts are in my plan, along with re-purposing. For me, it’s important to think about clothing from a global perspective and resist the urge to buy cheaply-made, mass-produced goods. Watch The True Cost if you need encouragement.
It’s been a bit tougher to get my kids involved because they won’t wear handmade clothes anymore. My 13-year-old loves to shop and I’ve finally gotten her hooked on thrifting, which satisfies the love of the hunt while being kinder to both planet and wallet. What are you making this month?
