During a time when print magazines are going down by the dozen, it’s refreshing to see a lovely new publication emerge. Mollie Makes is my favorite new crafty magazine. Published in the UK, the magazine embodies the spirit of the crafty lifestyle along with the beauty of a shelter magazine. With project tutorials, featured handmade artists, photos of craft studios and images of vintage and handmade influenced interiors, inspiration and resources, it’s a must-read for anyone who loves handmade.
I was excited to discover the magazine when my editor sent me a write-up of 1, 2, 3 Sew, which was included in the first issue. I haven’t been able to find a copy of that issue in the U.S., but I did head to the suburbs yesterday to pick up a copy of issue #2 from a Joann store. My love for foreign magazines is an expensive habit, with the U.S. price at $11.99, but since this one is packed with so much goodness, I think it might be worth it. And it’s printed in English, which is a definite plus. This second issue also featured a felt flower kit attached to the cover.
Here are some photos to give you a glimpse inside the magazine:
Alicia Paulson’s beautiful sewing space is featured above. You can flip through the first issue here, watch the charming video trailer here, and check out their gorgeous blog here.
Oh my, so much crafty goodness in one place! Thank you.
if it’s available at JoAnn’s then i’ll be sure to check it out (that video WAS charming!)
I think I almost bought that one but put it back because of the price…
Thanks for letting us know! I absolutely love UK handicraft magazines, I am going to try and find this one.
You can still purchase the first mag at barnes and noble.
I didn’t know Joann carried this magazine. I have seen it through UK blogs and specifically loved when they featured crocheted apple cozies. I’m impressed that you were featured in an issue. You certainly deserve that wonderful press.
Love it! It’s sold at Hastings as well.
Oh wow! I need to get that magazine!
A kind UK friend sent me issue #1 and I made the apple cozy (turned into a small watermelon cozy, due to my developing crochet skills!) I have searched Joann Fabric for further issues but must wait until the end of July to find it in Denver. It’s brilliant, I agree. I liked the Dottie Angel article and I am glad your book is mentioned, too. It’s a happy, edgy, young contribution to the crafty world. I’m thankful for it!
Oh, thanks for sharing this!! I’ll seek it out right away!!
I saw you in this and meant to tell you 🙂 I’m a uk’er but its still hard to find a copy over here and issue 1 is selling for £25 😮
I tried Barnes and Noble and Joann and couldn’t find this mag 🙁
I’m a big fan of Mollie Makes too but I subscribe to the digital edition from Zinio because it’s soooo pretty on the iPad. It’s only about $6 for a single issue.
I havent been able to find one copy of this magazine in Sacramento, Ca. I have been to three Joanns Stores and two Barnes and Nobles. Stores are saying they havent even heard of it. I was able to snag issue #2 on ebay for a $9.99 buy it now price. This is hands down one of the best crafting magazines I have ever seen. Love it. I finally just broke down and paid for a one year subscription. I wont have to do any more searching…
