I’d like to make this in a brown twill for fall. Wouldn’t that be nice? This is the slouch bag from Akiko Mano’s book Linen Wool Cotton. A very nice book full of simple, natural designs. If you don’t have this one, it should go on your holiday wish list!
That bag looks so good. I might have to make one for summer beach outings (it’s late spring here in New Zealand) I don’t think I’ve commented here before, but I subscribe to your site by feeder and I love reading what you write. Thanks for the effort you put in.
Gorgeous bag – I thought I had bought that book – need to go check!
Hello, your blog is splendid, I adore your ideas, your explications, your photographs, I was registered. Very good continuation, the bag is large but superb.
Wow – I love this.
I can imagine it in a really soft narrow corduroy.
This is just for my shopping. I thought that we can sew this from an old skirt. Why not?
I love this bag. I can totally see it in a felted sweater material. ;-P You know, the red one I have in my stash.
HA! I had to look at that post a few times before I could tell it was a bag, I thought it was a shirt with a huge puffy bottom.:) Now that I see the bag, I love it!
A word on caution on this. I purchased the book based on seeing the bag on this blog and made the bag. There are some problems with the pattern, the most important of which is the direction for sewing on the top bands 3/8th of an inch from the top, then inserting the handles in the space between the two bands, and again sewing 3/8th of an inch from the top. Well, not if you want the handles to be sewn on the bag. There are other problems with the handles as well. In addition the length of the handles was insufficient for me, and I am not that tall and quite thin. I can barely fit it on my shoulder. Be sure to do a bag in inexpensive material so you can find the flaws prior to using something expensive.
I should have been clearer on my last post. I am still really happy to have found the book as a result of your posting. I love this bag and would not have found it otherwise. I found an internet site, http://www.makegoodbooks.com/errata/ with the changes needed. The new direction are much better. I’m making another one day! Thanks for the great blog. Your are an inspiration.
