Fairy Dress

Made a little dress for my four-year-old from this sweet Alexander Henry print.  I made the bodice too small, so I covered my measuring blunder by adding the patchwork stripes to the back to avoid remaking the bodice.  I think it ended up making the dress look much more interesting.  Just goes to show that some mistakes are serendipitous.

  1. Love it! Definitely agree that mistakes are just part of the creative process and an opportunity to learn. I learn a ton. 😉

  2. I looked at the pics before I read what you had written and thought, I love that band down the back….. Just goes to show! It looks lovely, I am fond of the fabric too.

  3. I think that (successful) problem solving is can be the best part of creating things. The dress it darling, it make me wish my girls were a bit smaller and not so teenagerish.

  4. I adore this print, and think it’s such a refreshing alternative to all the super-duper-pinky-princess stuff that’s out there.

Once made a rushed version of a school uniform jumper for our eldest (late the night before she needed it…) and stitched the lining on wrong: all the seam allowances were hanging on the outside. It was so late, and I was so tired, so I zigzagged them down and called it a day. She got all kinds of compliments from her teachers on how funky her uniform was. Go figure.

  5. This dress is beatiful, and I love the back panel. I might try to make a similar style for my 4 year old and add the panel on purpose!

  6. What a wonderful dress! It looks so much more interesting and unique with the bands in the back. Mistake or no, it’s fabulous!

  7. The dress is undeniably adorable and so, so lovely! The fabric is absolutely gorgeous! (BTW Congratulations on being featured in the sewing calendar – that’s the reason I came here initially – but was enchanted by the beautiful dress).
